Kiyamah is a 5 day celebration from October 28th – November 1st where children participate in activities designed to educate them and allow them to educate others in a fun and competitive way. A Swahili word for “Resurrection”, the theme of Kiyamah is a memorial celebration for our ancestors. Children choose which person in their history they want to dress-up as for Kiyamah from the "Top 25 Ancestors" List. Ancestors are chosen by voting. It can be a Civil Rights Leader, King, Queen, Tribal Chief or anyone in history who has made a significant impact in the world or our personal lives. The celebration of Kiyamah is designed to perpetuate cultural consciousness. It is the Capstone of Indigenous Celebrations.
